The Olive Farm

Cortijo Doña Constanza is an eco-friendly environment under new ownership since October 2017. The house wraps itself around a traditional ‘Andalucían’ style inner courtyard.  This Moorish influenced courtyard provides a dramatic entrance complete with a ‘wishing well’ and a traditional bell over the rustic entrance doors. The casitas have been fully refurbished to a high standard by the present owners, bringing that touch of luxury to all the rooms and enhancing what was already a delightful property.

Accommodation

The typical Andalucían style means that Constanza offers ample privacy for two separate groups as the casitas can be rented independently for smaller family units or rented together by extended families, or as a getaway for a group of friends looking for the indulgence of some space and luxury. Each casita has its own entrance and the grounds are extensive enough to provide space to spread out.  The casitas adjoin a central courtyard separated by a 3’ thick stonewall.  The central courtyard and the terraces have several outside dining and relaxation areas.

Both casitas have cosy ‘country style’ reception rooms with open plan kitchen/dining areas furnished with homely wood burning stoves for those cooler evenings.  High beamed ceilings and whitewashed walls complemented with handmade traditional terracotta floor tiles; thick walls and window shutters keep the house cool in the summer and warm in winter. Most of the good-sized bedrooms, offer extensive views of either lake or mountains.  Air conditioning is available in the master bedrooms and ceiling fans in the other bedrooms, though generally the breezes from the lake keep the casitas comfortably cool.  You’ll find super-soft bed linen; bathrobes and slippers along with big fluffy towels and bathroom products to give you that luxurious feeling that makes the difference.  For a good nights sleep you can rest easy with our anti-allergen protective mattress, duvet and pillow covers.  With only the sound of the rustling trees to be heard a peaceful nights sleep is guaranteed.

To ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible, the owners are available for help at any time if required, welcoming and attentive to the guests, but not intrusive.  The owner’s accommodation is a separate wing in a completely segregated part of the farm with their own private entrance and parking to offer the guests’ their full privacy.   Their part of the property is not rented out.

History of the Farmhouse 

Cortijo Dona Constanza (Lady Constanza’s Farm) Is reputed to have been built 200 years ago by an eminent surgeon from Granada who wanted to take full advantage of the cooling breezes that flow up the valley to this magnificent location. It was said by the locals that this fresh mountain air had special healing qualities for people suffering from respiratory illnesses. His wife (Dona Constanza), who was of a delicate disposition, was helped greatly by the climate here in Rute. The farm was tastefully rebuilt and sympathetically refurbished to a high standard by the previous owners ten years ago when they fell in love with the property and its location.
